Polk County Schools Supt Dr. James Causby was meeting with his finance officers Thursday and Friday to determine what the county might do to cut nearly $72,000 from its school budget between now and July State officials this week instructed the state’s 134 school systems to cut approximately $36 per child. In Asheville, that cut would amount ot $600,000 Causby was out of town Friday afternoon Assistant Superin tendent Susan Leonard said on Friday that most of Polk’s state instructional money is spent, but she expected the "few thousand" remaining to be frozen She said the only optional money left in the current year's budget is for the summer school program If the state does require the cuts. Polk may only be able to offer summer school free of charge to those grades required by law: third, sixth and eighth Last year. Calif., is a 1978 graduate of Tryon High School He has an A A.S. degree in Industrial Electronics and is a 1990 graduate of the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering Mr Delehanty is employed with Duke Power Company Lady Wolverines Win Girls Track Meet Polk County, paced by strong performances in the distance events, was first Thursday in the Pepsi/WTZQ Invitational girls high school track meet at East Henderson High School. The Lady Wolverines finished with 69 points to edge out A.C. Reynolds and Enka which had 65 and 644 points respectively. Other schools were: 4th. Asheville 55. 5. Pisgah 54. 6. Franklin 39, 7.
